Central Puerto receives a disbursement of USD 76 million for the La Genoveva Wind Project (88 MW) from the IFC.
Vientos La Genoveva, a subsidiary of Central Puerto, received USD 76 million on November 22nd, the full disbursement of the financing agreed upon with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank, for the construction of the Vientos La Genoveva project. This wind farm was awarded in Round 2 of the RenovAr program and represents a total investment of USD 125 million. .
The Vientos La Genoveva Wind Farm, with a capacity of 88 MW and sponsored by Central Puerto SA, is located 25 km from the city of Bahía Blanca in the southern part of Buenos Aires Province. It is expected to start operations in May 2020. Once completed, the project will inject approximately 390 GWh/year of electrical energy into the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI) through the La Genoveva 132/33 kV 110 MVA transformer station, which is part of this project. This will contribute to the Argentine government’s goal of achieving 20% of its total generation from renewable sources by 2025.
In this way, Central Puerto remains committed to making a significant contribution to renewable energy capacity, both through the RenovAr and MATER programs. This effort aligns with the goal of diversifying the country’s energy generation matrix, decarbonizing the energy model, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting environmental care within a sustainable and efficient energy framework. Under these schemes, the company is currently operating 205 MW and executing an additional 170 MW of wind projects. It is an honor for Central Puerto to have the support of the IFC for the development of these projects, even in this challenging time, which highlights the strength of our projects and our company to carry them forward,” said Rubén Vazquez, Renewable Energy Manager.
Currently, the Vientos La Genoveva wind farm has completed its civil works and is awaiting the arrival of the wind turbine components in December to begin assembly in the coming months.
During its construction, 280 workers were employed, and once completed, the energy produced will supply 104,000 homes.
In addition to contributing through various community actions, promoting gender equality in tasks, and helping to preserve endangered bird species, it is important to highlight that the introduction of this project will improve the average generation cost of the Argentine system.
